2004 - The Year So Far...
Winery and Chocolate Factory Tour:
This year, the German Club combined forces with the AU Food Technology Students Association and did a joined winery tour
throughout the Adelaide Hills. We visited a chocolate factory and four wineries, including our wonderful current 2004 sponsors
- Maximilian's. The sky was blue, the birds were singing - and so were we by the end of the wine tastings. The 25 of us had a brilliant
time and were treated really well at each of the wineries. Our first stop was the cellar door of Petaluma Wines, located in
the Bridgewater Mill restaurant, with a lovely view of the old mill. Next came the charming Maximilian's winery, where Scott
Hruska, one of the owners, gave us a fantastic welcome and some great wines. We spent a long time on the terrace, chatting
and admiring the view. We had a very German lunch at Hahndorf Inn, then went along to Melba's chocolate factory for
dessert. back on the bus, we played bingo and tore Mintie wrappers to see who could make the longest one. Our third
winery was the Mount Lofty Ranges Vineyard, a tiny property with a charming "tasting shed", looking out over a gorgeous valley
of vines. The bus almost got stuck in the small drive way, but our very capable bus driver managed to do a 12-point turn a
la Austin Powers and get us out. At Hahndorf Hills Winery, the resident wine experts were waiting
for us with open arms and a gorgeous private room set up with tasting paraphernalia. Sitting down and specially arranged tables,
we were given a remarkable presentation on 4 wines and given tastings of each. At 6pm, we finally made our way back
to the city with a warm fuzzy feeling (which was probably from all the wine). It was a great day and I can't wait until the
next winery tour comes along!

The AUGC Cocktail Night:
Still waiting on an official
review, but we went upmarket this year, with formal attire required by all. The cocktails are always potent at these events
(it helps that the drinkers are often the mixers too!) and fun is always to be had in bucketfuls...
The AUGC/AUFC Quiz Night:
Won by a mostly AUGC table, with
AUGC-ers coming second too, and the AUFC relegated to third... Aww, what a pity. :) Some great prizes donated by the Clubs'
Association, Becks and other regular sponsors.
O'Week:
Went by in a flash - nice to see some familiar faces
and new faces joining in!

Wow - what a year!
If you missed it, where were you? Hiding under a rock??
Kicking of with the Schnapps and Crepes Night at the Kroffle Bar, followed up by the Kabarett, then
the award winning Quiz Night, our excellent Annual Play, Not-the-Not-the-Oktoberfest (actually
held in October for a change due to venue problems), the AUFC v AUGC Soccer Match, and rounded off with the
End of Year Dinner! Wow, no wonder I feel tired!!
----------------------------------
We had a wicked year in 2003 - lots of new members, and heaps of old faces coming back to the fold.
We managed one of our most successful years yet, with lots of events and plenty of fun to be had. To show for our
efforts, the AUGC picked up the Club of the Year 2003 Award at the Clubs' Association Awards Night, and Best
Club Event 2003 for the Quiz Night, held jointly with the AUFC.
Not that we're boasting or anything.... Well, okay, we are.
